Avery Bridgmon, Physical Therapist
I am a recent graduate from the University of South Alabama, Department of Physical Therapy. I have wanted to be a physical therapist for as long as I can remember. I had a preconceived notion of what I wanted to do with my career, or so I thought. Little did I know that I would find the perfect fit for my personality and desires where I least expected it, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Montgomery. There are many things I love about this hospital but overall I love the family atmosphere and satisfaction achieved by helping people return home to their families.
From the moment I arrived for my interview up to now, I have had the overwhelming sensation that I am accepted for who I am, the good and the bad. Everyone has a willingness to step up and help other people out, which makes it easy to want to do the same for others. The staff is very professional, yet laid back and easy to approach. I look forward to going to work every day because I love the people I work with and they give me energy and make me smile.
In this setting, you have the opportunity to make a bigger impact on a person's life. You take a person who has had a major occurrence or multiple events that have left them significantly impaired. You get to work with them for multiple hours a day, days in a row helping them to achieve their goals. Nothing is more satisfying to me than to get to see the look on someone’s face having just walked after thinking it would never be possible, or being able to tell the person and their family they could go home. PRICELESS!
